Newsworthy Notes:

A fond farewell:

At the end of June we will say goodbye to Jodie Munro.  Jodie joined the SPA in January 2017 and has been a valuable addition to the Saskatchewan Physiotherapy Association.  On behalf of the SPA membership, I would like to thank Jodie for her hard work and dedication the last 2.5 years.  Jodie was an important part of our team and I truly appreciated working alongside her.  Jodie, you will be missed, but we certainly wish you every success in all your future endeavors.

Call for volunteers:

WCB and SGI will be working with the Chiropractors Association of Saskatchewan (CAS) to plan a care provider conference gearing toward an autumn date.  The SPA has been invited to participate on the planning committee.  Please let me know if you have an interest to help shape this event (execdirector@saskphysio.org) prior to July 5, 2019.

Request from SGI:

SGI would ask that all physiotherapists please send any paper invoices through the electronic document exchange portal, or by mail.  Please do not send invoices via fax.

Update from WCB:

It is good to be back after an absence from writing in the SPA newsletter.  There are only a few updates that we wish to make.

Firstly, in order to make your administrative work load better we would like to remind physiotherapists that when submitting your initial assessment reports and progress reports there is no need to fax them.  When completing the reports electronically on through WCB website they are immediately saved to the file once submitted.  The odd practitioner/clinic continues to fax their reports into WCB after submitting electronically.  This is not necessary.

One general trend that is noted when looking at the billing at the primary level is a substantial amount of education being billed – code 2011.  We remind practitioners that when billing an education intervention code, the 20 minute block of time would be utilized specifically for educating the injured worker.  If education is provided while biomechanically treating the worker, this 20 minute intervention would be billed as a 2001.  As noted in the Fee Schedule, there should be no double billing within a 20 minutes block of time.  That is, there should be only one intervention billed for a 20 minute block of time.

Finally, we would remind practitioners that as per the Soft Tissue Guidelines, when the worker is being treated beyond 12 weeks a phone call should be made to the primary physiotherapy consultant.  This phone call will outline the current treatment plan, the anticipated date of discharge and the reason for treatment going beyond the 12 week mark.  Documenting on the next PTP report that this contact was made. This is required for soft tissue injuries.

We thank all the practitioners for their hard work and dedication to helping the WCB return injured workers back to a maximized functional status and providing The Right Care at the Right Time.

Sincerely;

Dale Pitura/Davis Kachan
