March 21, 2020: Message from WCB regarding primary PT services during COVID-19 restrictions

Re: Services to current WCB clients during PT clinic closures

I understand that clinics will be closing or reducing service, as a result of COVID 19. It is the WCB’s hope that we are all back looking after injured workers soon.

To assist our current WCB clients during this difficult time, WCB is willing to support telephone and virtual management where clinics have the staffing to do that and can comply with SCPT Guideline #24 re Tele-rehabilitation. If you can provide these services, please do so.

The WCB recognizes the need to re-assess, provide treatment including exercise instruction, education and RTW planning to the injured worker. As a result, though you are not actually present with the injured worker, WCB can be invoiced using the education code (2011), individual/global conditioning (2008), and RTW code (2002) to reflect these services. Please remember that a 20 minute intervention should result in a billing of a single fee code, a 40 minute intervention in 2 fee codes, etc. No double billing of any period of time should occur.

Although the current WCB Standards of Care require a PTP report after every 10 visits, we also recognize that reduced staffing levels may make this challenging. Please try to follow these timelines as you are able, invoicing WCB for your report.

Finally, once you have stabilized your clinic, can you email to the group email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. advising which of the following applies to you:

  1. Total closure
  2. Open for business as usual
  3. Closed with telephone or virtual management of WCB workers planned

WCB recognizes this is a fluid situation and these codes may change as need arises. Ongoing communication with all stakeholders involved will continue.
